Fractured Restoration & Undermining Caries

In this case study I’d like to share a simple composite case I did last month.

The patient had no pain complaints. She had done a restoration few years back and the restoration broke now.

There was deep brown discoloration indicating undermining Caries but on exploration it was still hard suggesting either not active or arrested Caries progressions.

The plan was to explore minimal options as the tooth was broken very close to the pulp chamber.

A slow speed motor handpiece with large round but was used to clear any soft dentin present. A white composite stain was used to cover the dark color areas and A2 shade composite was used to build the tooth.

Patient was really satisfied.

I used ChatGPT to rewrite this story. It gave me a version what was so advanced in Grammer I didn’t understand what most words meant. But I enjoyed reading it. I’m sharing it below so that you can also enjoy it.

PS: I wrote my story in the type box in ChatGPT and added this line at the end, “write this better in the same tone with more detail”

Last month, I had the opportunity to tackle a straightforward yet fascinating composite case. The patient, despite a broken restoration, surprisingly had no pain complaints, which immediately piqued my interest. It turned out she had undergone a restoration procedure a few years ago, and now, it was showing signs of wear.

Upon examination, I noticed deep brown discoloration, indicating potential underlying caries. However, upon closer inspection, I found that the affected area was still remarkably firm, suggesting that the caries progression might have been inactive or even arrested.

Given the delicate nature of the situation, with the tooth perilously close to the pulp chamber, I decided on a conservative approach. Armed with a slow-speed motor handpiece equipped with a large round bur, I meticulously cleared away any softened dentin, ensuring not to disturb the tooth’s integrity further.

To address the unsightly discoloration, I opted for a strategic application of a white composite stain, carefully concealing the dark areas. Then, utilizing an A2 shade composite, I painstakingly built up the tooth, restoring both its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

The gratifying culmination of this procedure came in the form of the patient’s palpable satisfaction. Witnessing her genuine contentment underscored the success of the minimalistic approach employed, reaffirming the importance of precision and patient-centric care in every dental endeavor.

Please share your thoughts on my case and also on the ChatGPT version of it 😁. Thank you for reading my content. Have a great day. Drop a like if you enjoyed it.

When yours is simple, chatgpt 's is Java. If i had read the latter first, I might not have fully understand what you tried to convey. Personally I feel that when paraphrasing with chatgpt is generally helpful, their wordings are more poetic and not apt for scientific literature all the time. (Don't get me wrong, I do use chatgpt, grammarly, gemini and many other AIbots for literature works. But I m not a fan yet.)
