What can you understand from this pic?Yes, you must be thinking that the patient in this image is suffering from toothache/pain, but the actual reason is that the patient is feeling embarassed regarding the bad breath/odour.Let’s see what is actually bad breath.

**Bad breath (also known as Halitosis) is actually not a serious problem, but its an unpleasant odour in exhaled breath which sometimes becomes a sign of serious disease.Example include poor dental hygiene or eating certain foods like onions or garlic.

1.Reasons Behind Bad Breath:

  • Gingivitis or irritation, redness and swelling of gums.
  • Periodontitis or a serious type of infection that can damage gums as well as the jawbone.
  • Tonsil stones.
  • Tonsilitis(inflammation of tonsil).
  • Dental abscess(formation of a pocket of pus in a tooth caused by infection).
  • Smokers(Yeah, you must have noticed that smokers are at high risk because in previous article, Oral health care, we also discussed that smoking is also one of the cause of yellowing of teeth).
  • Few medications can also cause bad breath.
  • Intake of foods like onions and garlic.

2.Some of the basic tips which you can start immediately at home to avoid this problem:

  • Drink lots of water.
  • Brush your teeth regularly(replace your toothbrush every 2-3 months).
  • Brush your tongue.
  • Use interdental brushes to clean in between your teeth, where regular toothbrush cannot reach.
  • Drink green tea.
  • Use mouthwash like Chlorhexidine twice a day on daily basis.

**REMEMBER;if you are brushing your teeth before going to sleep then its not necessary that just after waking up early in the morning you have to brush your teeth, you can even go for normal mouthwash with warm saline water and after breakfast you can brush your teeth(at night brushing should be done half an hour after dinner and in mornings brushing should be done half an hour before breakfast; a time period of atleast half an hour should be given in between brushing and meals).

  • Avoid eating excess of garlic or onions.
  • The most important tip is that instead of feeling shy or embarassed, try to maintain the oral hygiene.

3.In the following collages you can go through the products which helps to stop bad breath:

  • After these remedies, now if anyone asks you to open your mouth, then you can freely say Ha!Ha!Ha. I hope this article is going to help you today, and tomorrow as well, because if today you can take out a little bit of time from your busy schedule to maintain a good & proper oral hygiene then tomorrow you can undoubtedly lead an embarassing-free life.
